The Golden Ratio

The golden ratio φ ≈ 1.618 appears in pentagons, Fibonacci numbers, art, architecture, and plant growth. Euclid described it over 2,000 years ago as dividing a line "in extreme and mean ratio." Whether nature truly prefers it remains debated, but its mathematical properties are undeniably remarkable.

Why do ratios of consecutive Fibonacci numbers approach the golden ratio?
